Perry Foundation Awards
$50,000 Challenge Grant
to RWS for New Wildlife Sanctuary Home

Please Help RWS Meet the Challenge

The Perry Foundation has awarded Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary a $50,000 matching grant to launch our new capital campaign!

However.....
We must raise $118,000 by December 2010 in order to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

We will use these funds to expand our capacity to respond to the increasing number of injured and orphaned wildlife needing our care by renovating the barn at Miller School into a facility dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation.

This new sanctuary home will also enable us to expand our educational programming so that the public can begin to understand the unique needs of wild animals. This grant - along with YOUR help - will enable Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary to grow!

Please help us meet this challenge!
There are several ways to help:

  1. Send a cash donation directly to the capital campaign
either by mail (see below) or online.
  2. Donate stock - contact us!
  3. In the construction profession? Donate in-kind goods and/or services. This will offset the cash needed to complete Phase 1.
  4. Host a "friendraiser" to spread the word about this exciting project.

Our Parnership with Miller School

Currently housed at the Nelson County home of its founder, Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary now needs more space to care for the increasing number of injured and orphaned wild animals coming to the Sanctuary.

After years of searching and consideration, the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary has entered into a partnership with Miller School that will allow the sanctuary to relocate part of its operation to a beautiful site within the 1600 acres on which Miller School sits. Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary and Miller School share a commitment to the environment, experiential education and community and both will benefit from this partnership.

In this move, an existing barn will be renovated for the intensive care of baby animals. This renovation project is estimated to cost $168,000. The Perry Foundation has provided us with a critical jumpstart and exciting challenge with a $50,000 matching grant.

Renovation of the Barn for Wildlife

This unique project offers an opportunity to create a facility that will complement the exceptional and historic architecture of the Miller School.

Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary will renovate an existing barn on the Miller School property to accomodate the growing number of wild animals needing rehabilitative care. Renovation will include:

  • new roof on the barn
  • well and septic system
  • renovation to the inside of the barn to create a nursery, quarantine area, bathroom, storage facilities, and office
  • outside cages and a fenced area around the barn grounds
  • An existing pond will facilitate the rehabilitation of aquatic wildlife.
